The Internet of Things – combined with Big Data – is still a
relatively new concept. However, slowly but surely it is reaching deeper into
our lives every day. While some of the innovations are very exciting and cool –
other’s needed to get the rough edges ironed out before they can truly become a
part of our everyday lives.
Recently – we have seen how the internet of things can even
fix your yoga. This smart yoga mat, there
are sensors embedded in the mat can provide feedback on your postures, provide
you with a score based on your progress and even guide you through an at-home practice.
The technology is ambitious, and only at the prototype phase
at this point. However, it clearly shows the potential of just how far the
Internet of Things can go in the coming years.
Another application of this concept comes in the form of
wearable technology. At present there are several very interesting pieces of
wearable technology such as the infamous Google Glass, FitBit and Skully – the world’s first
helmet, evolved. It is in this realm of wearable technology powered by the
Internet of Things that has led certain industries to really ponder.
Imagine lying in bed, looking at your partner and thinking
to yourself “did he/she really enjoy this?” We all have wondered if the
opposite sex has really had a good time or were they simply going through the
motions? Well the healthcare industry may have your answer…. Durex – one of the largest manufactures
of condoms prides itself in the process of proven effectiveness. One of their
more recent ideas are condoms with sensors!
Now the thought of having technology fully aware of every
motion (and its resulting emotion) is a little bit creepy. Science proves that
when the human species is at climax certain biological activities occur. In men
this is relatively straight forward – we are a little bit easier to predict.
Women on the other hand can be a whole lot harder to figure out (come on guys
you know what I’m talking about). “When women are being aroused, their hearts
beat faster, their breathing quickens, their nipples become erect, and their
genitals become engorged with blood. As arousal climbs, these sensations
increase until they climax, i.e., orgasm, and your body returns to its un-aroused
state.” (CosmopolitanMagazine). Well this is what science says, but most guys can’t keep a track
of all of that. This is where these new proposed condoms come in.
These condoms will be able to track these signs as they
happen and provide you with feedback on your personalized and secure app. A
check list to ensure you’ve done everything “right”? Will it work? Maybe. We
have yet to find out.
But if you decide to go down this route, there is a strong
chance you will know if your partner faked it, or not. Happy testing J
